Researchers Find Lithium Effective in Nuclear Fusion

Experimental advanced superconducting tokamak in Hefei, China. Researchers from the US and China have made progress in their joint collaboration on the use of lithium to control plasma within experimental nuclear fusion reactors. Nuclear fusion occurs in a hollow steel donut that is surrounded by magnets called tokamak. The magnetic fields are used to contain charged gas (plasma) that is heated to 100 million degrees, which leads deuterium and tritium in the plasma to … Continue reading

Chemists create 3-D printed Graphene foam

3-D graphene foam objects are produced by shining a laser on a mixture of powdered sugar and nickel powder. The laser is moved back and forth to melt sugar in a 2-D pattern, and nickel acts as a catalyst to spur the growth of graphene foam. The process is repeated with successive layers of powder to build up 3-D objects. Macquarie stumbles with backflip on Lithium outlook

Macquarie Research analysts upgraded their forecasts after last year predicting an oversupply. Macquarie Research has been forced into an embarrassing backflip over its outlook for the lithium market. Analysts from the investment bank this week upgraded their forecasts for the lithium and cobalt price and lifted their outlook for several local lithium players after last year predicting an oversupply of the commodity. Yesterday, Macquarie upgraded its lithium price forecasts 19 per cent in 2020-21, … Continue reading

Turning Captured CO2 into Graphene, Graphite and Other High Value Products

CVMR Corporation (“CVMR”) announced today that it has acquired controlling shares of Enercarbon Inc. (“Enercarbon”). Enercarbon Inc. is a privately held, Canadian corporation based in Toronto, and it has developed a modular, cost effective “membrane contactor” that captures carbon dioxide (CO2) from the exhaust gas sources and through a proprietary process, developed jointly by CVMR and Enercarbon, turns it into valuable products such as graphene, graphite, various building materials, as well as diesel and … Continue reading

US-China collaboration makes excellent start in optimizing Lithium to control plasma

Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak is shown. Credit: Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Science For fusion to generate substantial energy, the ultra-hot plasma that fuels fusion reactions must remain stable and kept from cooling. Researchers have recently shown lithium, a soft, silver-white metal, to be effective in both respects during path-setting U.S.-Chinese experiments on the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) in Hefei, China. Leading the U.S. collaboration is the U.S. Department of Energy’s … Continue reading

GKN Sinter Metals introduces new Carbon alloy steel

GKN Sinter Metals reports in its blog that it has developed 20MnCr5, a new low carbon alloy steel intended for metal additive manufacturing (AM). The case-hardened material has will be used to build prototypes for gears and has a high strength with ductility, high fatigue strength, wear resistance through case hardening and inherent toughness. ‘We can now manufacture parts made completely of 20MnCr5 and offer hybrid production, meaning we are able to combine different … Continue reading
