Kiir, US and Canadian businessmen discuss investment in South Sudan

August 9th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and met with a delegation of American and Canadian businessmen in Juba on Thursday to discuss investment in different fields in the country, the presidency said in a statement.

In a statement, the presidential press unit said the the mission of the visiting foreign investors was to assess and identify investment sectors including but not limited to financial institutions, industrial productions, oil refinery construction, and mining projects.

“The President of the Republic, H.E. SalvaKiirMayardit met with a delegation of investors from Canada and the United States of America who are interested to invest in South Sudan in the areas of real estate, mining, oil refinery, manufacturing of metals, and advisory to financial institutions,” a brief statement from the presidency said..

The presidential news portal said that the Chairman of the Chemical Vapour Metal Refining (CVMR®), Kamran M khozan praised the South Sudanese Government for opening its doors to interested foreign investors who have been always eager to change the nation’s current outlook to a more better country.

“The Chairman of CVMR® corporation Kamran M. khozan appreciated President SalvaKiir for creating a conducive and friendly environment for investors to come and invest in South Sudan,” said the CEO of CVMR® corporation.

According to the World Bank, the country is heavily dependent on oil revenues, with oil accounting for about 60 percent of GDP.

In August 2013, before the violence broke out in the country, the government announced an international investor’s conference that was supposed to bring together more than 200 investing companies from around the world. Unfortunately, the planned conference was later canceled over an unclear circumstance.
