CVMR Corporation A New Standard in Environmentally Neutral High-Purity Metal Refining
Purity is a measure of quality in metal refining. Conventional processes for metal production achieve high purity with large-scale infrastructure and investments, significant energy expenditures and generate toxic emissions, waste and contaminated byproducts with a distinctive environmental signature. The process operations are specific to certain ores and are dedicated to a limited feedstock. A change in feed materials from alternative sources requires redesigning entire facilities and makes traditional approaches inefficient, dangerous andunsustainable as a steward of the environment.
CVMR® Corporation (CVMR®) provides the highest quality refined nickel available today in an efficient, cost-competitive, environmentally neutral production that does not compromise a wide range of feed materials.
CVMR®’s vapor metallurgy processes selectively isolate 36 metals, including rare earth elements and transition metals, as it produces up to 52 usable forms—powders, nanopowders, coatings, complex netshapes and high-performance metal products—at 99.9999 (6N) percent purity. A proprietary closed-loop system produces no air emissions, no liquid waste or contaminated water effluent, no toxic tailings for disposition andreduces the environmental burdens of the inert residue. This rare combination of versatility, scalability and eco-friendly cleanliness puts CVMR® on a shortlist of highly responsible critical metal suppliers.
The success of this process isn’t the result of a single innovation but the sum of integrated systems that have produced a modern, accountable method of refining metals, developed over 40 years. Reactive gases selectively separate target metals from ore, concentrates, scrap and even finished products inside a tightly controlled reactor with conditions focused on a single element. Various feedstocks containing a target metal go through the same system without changing the fundamentals of the process. While conventional refiners juggle leaching tanks, high-temperature furnaces and custom setups for each metal, CVMR® runs everything in one system and can use the same equipment for multiple metals.
“It’s an elegant process. We can shift from nickel to cobalt and iron by using the same reagent and simply adjusting reactor conditions; for other elements, we have to use specific reagents,” says Kamran Khozan, chairman and CEO.
CVMR®’s performance was tested during the deep-earth neutrino experiment in Sudbury, Ontario and backed by a consortium of Canadian, U.S. and UK governments, for $3.5 billion U.S.dollars. The project required ultra-pure metal free of radioisotopic emissions and allowed the detection of subatomic particles emitted from the sun, racing through the solar systemknown as neutrinos. CVMR® delivered ultra-pure tubes for the large-scale scintillation system, the purest materials tested for this significant, global scientific project. Lead scientist Dr. Arthur McDonald won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2015 for his work and leadership in this project. He acknowledged the excellence of the CVMR®-produced nickel tubes in assuring the system's sensitivity. The metal purity achieved has yet to be matched.
CVMR® provides industrial-scale modules for production operations and runs operational pilot plants, including a Toronto site that processes up to 500 tons of material annually for tests, R&D and feasibility studies. CVMR®’s clients use these facilities to validate yields, trial feedstocks and accelerate go-to-market timelines with product for evaluation without building a temporary testing infrastructure and pilot plants. Because the piloting system mirrors the commercial ones, scaling up becomes an engineering step based on operational data and not a redevelopment of the metal vaporization process.
Control of the entire process, from feedstock to final product, gives CVMR® leverage in speed, evaluation and operational efficiency. It sources raw materials through direct agreements with governments in Africa, Asia and other regions, paying local taxes, sharing revenue, managing plant design, refining operations and logistics internally. CVMR® has done so for over 40 years without outside debt or third-party processors.
“We’ve stayed debt-free because it lets us move within the strength of our experience and talents. That independence matters when the material you handle is mission-critical and addressing an emerging market opportunity,” says Michael Hargett, president of U.S. Operations.
That trust and precision led the U.S. Department of the Treasury to tap CVMR® for an unusual task: coating U.S. money plates for improved durability, consistent printed images and extended life, providing a new generation of currency. CVMR® met every technical requirement from its Toronto facility, operating under complete security oversight of the U.S. Secret Service.
Private clients are just as confident. One nickel and cobalt producer quadrupled output from 500 to 2,000 tons a year after installing CVMR®’s modular system and later expanded production with four additional modules. The upgrade came under budget, on schedule, with better product quality, improved employee safety metrics and a smaller environmental footprint. Today, that client runs five CVMR® modules on-site.
CVMR®’s process platform is built on 135 years of proven chemistry and innovation based on its proprietary design and engineering for a global supply of high-purity metals and it’s not slowing down. The industries that need purity, supply chain traceability and environmental accountability are leading.
This platform also significantly facilitates ‘scaling down’ from a metal refinery's traditional infrastructure and scope. CVMR® refinery modules are sized to reduce production proportionately while ensuring competitive operating costs. This approach provides a refinery operation with lower capital expense and high unit production.
That’s why CVMR® operations are just as critical as the advanced materials it provides. From a metallurgical technology built on extraction using vaporization, CVMR® engineers operate metal refinery systems with precision, security, quality, safety andcompetitive costs for finished metal products. For companies ready to move beyond outdated methods and secure an environmentally cleaner, more stable path forward, CVMR® is already there, proving a highly competitive production option.
